Most people with heart disease can take an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. In fact, some ACE inhibitors are used to treat and prevent heart disease.

The American Heart Association recommends ACE inhibitors for people who have:

  • stable heart disease and high blood pressure
  • heart failure and high blood pressure
  • had a stroke
  • diabetes and high blood pressure

If you take an ACE inhibitor and have heart failure, there are some things your doctor may need to keep an eye on. Taking ACE inhibitors for heart failure can cause your blood pressure to get too low or make your kidneys not work as well. You will need regular check-ups to make sure you don’t develop any of these problems.

ACE inhibitors can play a part in taking care of your heart!
